The Home of Daddy's Day Dare! ~ I am just trying to stay above water

The Pineapple Song

Feeling tropical this Holiday?

Want to give it a try?

Kick your shoes off, clear some furniture, click the video below, turn it up and dance like like you just don’t care!

“Its really easy!

Easy, peasy,

You can do it anywhere…

Jump around like you just don’t care.”

I love this song!

This is a song from one of my favorite movies that I just watched again.

After The Sunset is the typical story of a couple of gorgeous, jewel thieves that retire to the Bahamas and Paradise Island to watch sunsets.

"I could get use to this"

“I could get use to this”

Pierce Brosnan tries to readjust to retirement while Ms. Hayek tries to get him to write his wedding vows as they consider there ‘ever-afters in the Caribbean. It may be a predictable storyline but the Caribbean scenes are breath taking. Clear blue water, white sand, unspoiled beaches, and Salma Hayek

I love it because these two love birds try to retire there and I have been wanting to retire to a similar local for about the last 20 years! So this picture makes it easy to fantasize visualize about what it may be like, even if I will be 20 years older than our heroes in this one.

Yea, that's what I'll look like when I retire!

Yea, that’s what I’ll look like when I retire!

One of my favorite lines in movies is when Pierce comes out of their ocean front beach hut to find Salma behind an electric saw. He asks, “What are you doing?”

“Expanding the deck” .

“You’re trying to stay busy?

Salma puts down her saw and informs Pierce, “Look, on this deck we are going to sit here and watch sunsets every day until we get old.”

"...but you are going to have to lose that phone".

“…but you are going to have to lose that phone”.

Ahhhh. Yea…that’s for me!

And it doesn’t hurt this movie either that my favorite actress and 2nd most beautiful gal in the whole wide world is in this flick either. Yea, this movie is easy on the eyes!

But I digress!

Keep jumpin’ around to the tropical Pineapple Song! Bookmark for some fun this weekend. Turn it up. Dance and have some fun like nobody is watching!

And if you want to escape to a tropical hide away and some clear blue waters this weekend, or sometime soon, take a look at After The Sunset.

What's not to like?

What’s not to like?

Have an exciting and safe 4th of July all you Yanks! Happy birthday to a certain matey! And Happy Canada Day week to all of you north of the border. did I forget anyone?

Fathers Day gift

Father’s day has come and gone. Thanks to everyone who remembered us Dads! Phew! Its tough work !

I did see some great Father’s Day posts out there. But in the interest of brevity (for once) here is a Quote from one of my favorite posts on Sunday, courtesy of Beach Treasures and Treasure Beaches

Anyone who tells you fatherhood is the greatest thing that can happen to you, they are understating it.

As you may know by now, I am not big on celebrations per se. I down play birthdays and the like. So Father’s Day was not a big deal to me either. My feelings are its nice to be remembered and appreciated but that is about the extent of it.

Accordingly, Fathers Day I mowed the lawn.

But a blogging buddy, D’Anna at Style Salvation, pointed out what a cool Father’s Day I actually had via our comments to her Fathers day post.

Yes, while we did make it to my favorite restaurant, the one we never eat at because it appears I am the only one that likes it in our clan, and the lawn was mowed, and I celebrated with my greatest vice, ice cream, D’Anna pointed out my day was a bit more magical than that.

D’Anna, who has been one of the dozen readers I carry and knows my clan quite well by now, pointed out, “I bet received a homemade card from my little darlings” .

That I did! The truth is I am still receiving them! I received another homemade Fathers Day card tonight from my lil’ gems. In fact, I have received one every day for over a week from these loving daughters of mine. My girls have hearts of gold and in a few days, when grandma and grandpa come to visit, they will receive their stack of homemade “I love you’s” too.

But I am dragging this out. Know what the best gift I received Father’s Day was?

Dylan wanted to take our greyhound for a walk. He hasn’t been on a walk in our neighborhood in almost a year as he was charged by a dog coming out of its house last year and so he was scared to go past ours. Sure, he can bite and growl at the nanny but he is afraid of most any dog.

So I told Dylan that was a good idea. Chumley needs to get out of the house, burn some energy, and quit chewing on our furniture. I got the leash and hooked him up. I made it to the door and called for Dylan, “I’m ready”.

Dylan,  hollers back, “Wait a second I want to get a trash bag.”

I shrugged my shoulders, trash bag? “I don’t think I will need anything quite that large for walking Chum

Dylan replies, “No Dad, to pick up trash that is on the street.”

My jaw dropped. Where did she get this idea from? I was just awed and so pleased with her. What a beautiful daughter we have. Happy Father’s day to me! What a great gift God! Thank you!

Our girls just did complete a week of extensive training and schooling in Bible School last week. I asked if she learned about picking up and saving our earth from there? She said no. That the idea did come from school. ~our tax dollars at work! But she and her sister did have a great time at Bible School, and learning about Weird Animals last week. Here is one thing they learned real well. I have to admit, its kinda catchy!

Its Amazing!

Have a great Father’s day Week all you Dads out there!

Sisters

Last weekend, our girls went on a field trip to a local fire Station with their Girl Scout troop (this is so cool as our youngest goes to all these events but she is technically not a Girl Scout) Most of  Dylan’s posse from school belong to this Girl Scout troop so it of a lot of run for her.

Dylan’s Posse

Any who, they all came home from this adventure with Dylan’s best friend from school and her older sister.

She says, “Guess what Daddy? We are going to have a sleepover tonight! Isn’t that exciting?”

Now I don’t know what is the proper age for sleepovers is. maybe some of you do. But this seemed a bit premature in Daddy’s eyes. But not so much to my more ‘liberal’ wife though. So I went with it.

Eight O’clock came and the youngest girls went to bed, this is Dylan’s  friend. By 8:20 we had her bundled up and in the car to take her back to her house. She was too scared it turns out.

But her older sister by two years was still game for the sleepover. She rode with her younger sister back to her house and then rode with Mom back to our house.

Now I know you all know about the fun and shenanigans that go on at sleepovers. Well this girl didn’t.

Instead of sleeping upstairs with my two daughters she so much more preferred the roomier downstairs guest bedroom.  So while my two girls slept on the floor waiting for her to sleep with them, she rested leisurely in the queen bed downstairs. She preferred to be treated more like a queen it appeared.

But sleeping wasn’t on this girl’s mind. She came out once for some thing to eat. (we also had a pizza party for dinner that night) She came out again for something to eat. She came out a third time for something to eat.

I ended up going to bed around 11:30 that Saturday night, waiting for her to fall asleep. She was busy playing hide and seek with me. She would sneak out close to the kitchen. When I heard her I would get up and then she would run a fast as she could back to her guest suite.

I ended going upstairs to bed (my most favorite thing I look forward to all day). About 12:30 we get a knock on our door. She wants to go home. My wife, a lot more tolerant person by nature, got up with her. When she didn’t come back to bed immediately I got up to see what the story was.

Here was our guest in my office on the phone trying to call her Nana to pick her . She says, “I don’t know why nobody is answering.

I said “I do, SHE IS SLEEPING!  She doesn’t hear the phone.”

So I marched this young lady back to her room. Since she claimed she couldn’t sleep I turned the TV on for her and went back to my room. I prayed for guidance, no more interruptions and a house full of slumber.

The next morning I woke up to make everyone breakfast. Blueberry and banana pancakes were on the menu!  I go downstairs and all the girls are eating popcorn at 7:15 in the morning while watching a movie. Apparently our overnight guest found some microwave popcorn and decided to fix it for all the girls. Fine. “Who wants breakfast?”

Everyone but our guest chimed in with the number of pancakes that they could eat.  About this time I noticed all the lights were on in the house. So I started turning them off, following a trail of lights back to our guest bedroom. When I got back there it appeared I missed a party the night before.

There was an empty canister of peanuts on the nightstand, an empty bowl of salsa, a coke and a once bitten pop tart..all on the night stand. errrr!

In all fairness, these two young ladies are actually really sweet girls and some of Dylan’s best friends at school. I didn’t do my first sleep over until 5th or 6th grade I imagine. And I bet I was no favored guest my first times either. .. till I learned the ropes.

And I am sorry,  that is not what this blog is about. Let me take you to some place warm and fuzzy. Last week I threatened promised you with some more excerpts from Dylan’s writing journal. Here is one about her utty-ba-cutie  younger sister. Enjoy!

Have a great weekend everyone!

School’s Out!

Yes, once upon a time I knew and celebrated Alice Cooper’s song religiously. There was nothing like the feeling of the last day of school.

Now it takes on a whole new meaning.

Dylan’s last day of school was Friday. She didn’t quite understand what it meant. I didn’t know why she wasn’t as excited (for her) as I was. I told her it is a last day to see your friends at school. Its a day of celebration. There won’t be any work to do. No more teacher, dirty looks.I said the day will be loud and it will be noisy and fun. Let a summer full of playgrounds, riding bikes, swimming pool begin!

Sure enough, as I held Dylan’s hand walking into school as a Kindergartener for the last time on Friday, the halls were stripped bare of decorations and accolades. Kids were running a muck in the hallways where I am used to them sitting quietly along the walls in the hall. And the noise level was a good bit ‘enhanced’.

Remember those days?

OK, good, cause that was just my desperate attempt to tell you all about Dylan’s report card one last time. We received that when she came home from her last day of school Friday. Forgive me if you are tired of me bragging on our girl but (proud daddy at work) she received all A’s again! Yayyyyyy!

take the picture daddy

A quick ‘scan’ down the report card revealed all 4’s. They do a numerical 4 point grading system. We were not disappointed! The second page is my favorite page however. Where the first page suggests the intelligence or willingness of the student to learn to second page rates more the character of the student; something possibly harder to teach.

Our Dyl received all 4’s again in such things as:

Takes on Responsibility

Respects others

Follows Rule and directions

Uses time wisely (oh isn’t that an important one grown-ups?)

Participates in class discussions

Exercises Self-control

Atta girl Dylan! The teacher goes on to write    “….She has continuously been a leader and role model in class (!!!).  She is exceeding grade-level standards and expectations independently.  She has solid foundation to enter the first grade and we expect the transition to be smooth”.

Well that is a good cause to take our little girl out to her favorite pizza place tonight!

And while we always enjoy seeing and reading of her accomplishments she actually brought home a little gem for us. She handed us a few writing journals where they are asked to put forth their thoughts or ideas on paper each day. It looks like most days the writing has a theme but some days they can ‘freelance it‘  if you will. And we found a few gems in there.

So if I have not bored you to death yet, or thinking about hitting that back arrow button, here is a sampling of one such gem we found from our little girl. I hope to offer a few more of these in the upcoming days as 3D tries to regain a pulse.  Spelling (this time) will not be edited so I can show you a truer nature of these kindergarten essays:

Journal entry:

“Next time i will look at the bored before i think that i no what to do. I am sorye and i apoligey. That is a nother word for sorye. I bet you alredy no that alredy. I no that to.”

Thanks everyone for dropping by!

Have a GREAT summer vacation!

To all those that have served: Thanks for this day!

Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone!  I hope you had a chance to relax or have some fun or do what ever you like to do on your free days off from work.

We decided to take the kids out to the beach for the first time this season. I don’t think they had been to the beach since about June of last year.

I really hadn’t been out to the beach in almost a year as well, except for a glorious time or two when I only could spare  minute.

Our visit was ideal and instantly reminded me of vacations and beach visits from the past…

It really was a wonderful day. Even Mom remarked on how perfect everything was; the water was crystal clear, the air temp, the wind, the crowds.  It made for a nice escape.

clear blue Atlantic

Like I said, even given it was a holiday, a 4-day weekend, the beaches were not too crowded.

Memorial day crowd

Of course we did leave our house at 10:15 to avoid the beach swarm to the coast.

But we had our usual good time. The girls were a little slow to embrace the beach, forgetting where they left off at last summer. They quickly found themselves at home in the tidal pool. They made a few friends there. Poor Skylar, she had to lug around her inner tube swimmie all through out the 8 inch deep tidal pool; kinda like her purse. It was too funny!

We arrived as the tide was going out. The vacated sand made for a nice wide, flat beach.  There weren’t many waves due to the low tide so you could just wade out and keep going. Eventually I lured Dylan out to go for a swim with her ol’ dad. As you can see, she really didn’t care for that too much…

The girls had a good time playing in the water and ocean again.

I had a great time acting like a kid in the ocean again. It was fun. It was relaxing. A great time for some little pondering with the Big guy.  It was a nice escape. And it felt good to be in my old beach chair again.

Back in my chair

Here is a brief look at our day on the ‘Isle Of Palms‘.  Thanks for taking time out of your hectic Memorial Day to drop by my beach here in 3D.

To all those Veterans, who helped secure our country and way of living so that we could enjoy a purrfect 3 day weekend (and get paid for it) I want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!

Happy Memorial  Day everyone!
