The Story Behind Your Thin Mint Purchase
…OK I am new to the Girls Scouts.. so lots of this stuff is new to me.
No, I am not in Girl Scouts, silly person, Dylan is!
But every year those cute little Girl Scouts come to your door with smiles and batting their eyes in hopes of selling you some over priced Girl Scout cookies. They are a cultural icon I guess by now, right? When someone says the word ‘Thin Mint’ what do you think of?
Have you ever wondered what the Girl Scouts do with all that cookie plunder money?
Lets take a poll:
Without giving away the answer, here are a few pictures from last weekend at our local Girl Scout’s year-end party.
First off there was some food! A lot of it for a little Girl Scout troop…
There was this buffet table, complete with 30 Papa John’s pizzas at the end of it.
There was the colorful and inviting Cup Cake table
There was also an equally colorful Candy Table behind the buffet table filled with colorful gum balls, lollypops, Skittles, and Pixie sticks!
Maybe that is not enough sugar for our little princesses, er, brownies you wonder!
How about a Sno-Cone table?
Now with all this sugar in their system these young ladies surely needed a way to burn it all off, right?
May I present Big Blue:
Now it wasn’t this Big Blue…..
..but is was more than enough to entertain Dylan for a while!
She seemed to enjoy it going down a few times…
In fact, she got real good at going down the slide, she went down so many times….
..in fact she spent most of the next 2 hours going down the slide…
Have another sno cone Dylan!
But it wasn’t ALL fun and games!
There was some business at this cookie-funded year-end party sugar-bash!
…and Dylan got to ‘Bridge into Brownies’
Cool stuff!
She had a ‘Certified’ great time on my birthday weekend!
Oh my birthday weekend you ask?
It was nice!
No big deal!
Same ol’ same ol’
Have the best holiday weekend knuckleheads!
You all rock!
Thanks for looking in!
Can I interest you in another Thin Mint or Samoa?
Follow your heart…
No worries Natalie. it was just kinda embarrassing after I reread it.
It’s on my list!
This email has shown me the importance ‘Proofing’ and not just hitting ‘Send’ first! Egad!
Ha ha! Thank you, however, I leave marathons to the marathon runners. I did an unofficial 1/2 marathon and was completely bored. A full marathon, is not for me!
Well then you should come visit us! I can send you a link to our running club for a list of runs for you. Our better yet, there is the Disney Marathon in January. I’ll do it if you will. Oh, and bring your camera! I love your craft there…
It still sounds like more fun, than my time in the Brownies! The songs we sang definitely weren’t PC at all! I can’t believe they let little girls sing those songs. They probably still do!
Barcelona’s a cool place to live. I guess being born in the EU has it’s advantages, free borders, ease to move around and live in different countries. But only if you’re from the ‘right countries’. Motherland UK is kicking up a fuss about certain Eastern European EU citizens coming to live in the UK. I stay out of that debate as I’m like them an immigrant too. The UK will have a referendum in the next 2 years to stay or not stay in the EU. I hope they vote to stay in! They won’t like when they realise they can’t travel around or have their holidays in the sun as easily! As for America, every since I was little I’ve wanted to live there! Looking forward to the Disney tales!
Hi. Ms.Natalie! Sorry I have missed your colorful blog lately. We have been on holiday @ Disney World. ..Blog posts forthcoming! Dykans girl scouts don’t so different. They do sing their sings and have their mottos and handshakes. And badges for accomplishing tasks. This particular party was because troop leader was moving. So it was part of a fun send off for her. Born in wrong country? I love where you are at now. I am learning so much about. You have put it on my List! Have the best week Natalie! Thanks for dropping by!
Wow! Brownies (UK version of Girl Scouts up to 11, then Girl Guides until I think 18) were nothing like that when I was a Pixie. I always thought that the American Girl Guide and Brownie association was much better than the UK version. I remember we used to sing songs a lot, have some challenges for the badges, but nothing like this day! Okay, we’re talking a few years ago with the horrid brown and yellow uniforms, but I always had a feeling I was born in the wrong country! Maybe I would have stuck with it if my troop way like Dylans!
Thanks PIF… I didn’t know about sugar
I just know that Vit C boosts immunity and sugar weakens it. I’ve seen both in action many times.
Seriously, does Vitamin C do that with sugar? We actually have some chewable vitamins for them they take semi-regularly…cause Dylan gets sick semi-frequently… How does that work?
I think your family should invest in some chewable vitamin C to counteract all that sugar and revitalize their immune systems!
It was a blast just as the weather got nice enough to sport 3 hours of sliding down a wet jump castle. I think it was a big party because the troop leader’s family is getting deployed to …….Hawaii! it was a fitting send off for her. What did your troop due with all your booty from selling cookies? Have a great day Nancy! Thanks for looking in..
Ok, 6 boxes if Samoa’s coming up! And some colorful Gum Balls and pixie stixs! The girls did have a blast. They had a similar great time this past weekend at my wife’s work. If we ever get a break from going to these kids events I might be able to post about it! I hope your doing well PIF! Will this be cash or charge?
Hi Andy,
Like the previous poster, I’m partial to Samoas. Although I have yet to meet a cookie that I don’t like.
I was a Girl Scout for many, many years. I have fond memories of selling Girl Scout cookies too. We never had a neat year end party like Dylan did. It looks like a lot of fun!
Nancy
Samoa. Definitely samoas for me. Finished the last one recently. It was a sad sad day. Looks like those girls had a blast, though!
The package above the certificate is an iron on patch for her new Brownie sash. They collect these patch’s as they accomplish tasks and progress through the girl Scout chain. It was too crowded at the pizza end of the table to snap a shot. Plus that end of the table is where me and my plate of 4 pieces of pizza were parked. 🙂 Thanks for dropping by Aurora! Have the best weekend!
A photo of vegetables instead of the pizzas, mmmmmm.
Whats the little package above the certificate? real brownies? cause that bridge is made of wood.
I know! And there were so many left over! There were still some in the boxes they came in on the ground. Yes, I left them alone. What I wanted to get mad at somebody about was the candy table. (I just added the pic for you, I forgot to load that one pic) …after all we preach to our kids. Its no wonder they climbed and slid on that jump castle slide for two hours. I hope you have a fun and special Memorial Day weekend! Thanks for dropping by Doc!
That cupcake rainbow looks like a little child’s dream! Pretty cool!
