Happy Birthday!

Monday was Skylar’s birthday. ~Films at 11:00!

While we are waiting for some vids to get downloaded I just wanted to give you a glimpse of the last carefree day or two.

happy birthday skylar

Yes, little Skye turned 3 Monday. We had a low-key celebration at our house since she and her older sister have basically been receiving gifts over the past two weeks. Her birthday wish for her birthday dinner? Macaroni and Cheese, what else?

But mac n cheese was only the side, the main course you say? Peanut butter and jelly! And even then she still likes to pull the sandwich apart and lick the insides or pick them off with her fingers. Yes, we are still working on her fork skills. You should see what happened to poor Cinderella!

Skylar painted her chin with birthday cake icing and then went out to play with her sister and new friend from next door. Nice and low key.

Sunday was the kick off to her birthday weekend as some of her very special grand parents popped into town and had lunch with us. Skylar smiled and laughed and enjoyed all the attention as her grandmother tried to steal all the hugs and kisses. And then, true to form, they walked both the girls out to their car and presented the birthday girls with two life-size birthday bags. It was a great day!

I think they remembered how much Skylar likes her lip gloss…

What did you eat this time?

What did you eat this time?

Because she got another sampling if it again. And she loved it too!

Sitting here I just realized we never said thanks to both of you after the kids tore open their birthday booty so THANK YOU SO MUCH!! The girls loved their new princess jewelry and tents! We loved those dresses! You two are great and we are so lucky to have you in our lives!

The girls treated these grandparents to their best versions of some favorite Schoolhouse Rocks songs. Does anybody remember these? Saturday morning educational commercials? I won’t tell anyone how long ago they were on TV.

Mom is always interested in seeing our two girls excel in school and these fun songs really fit the bill. We loved these songs as kids and so far our girls really like them too. It doesn’t matter that they don’t know what adverbs are; or interjections. Heck I was surprised at a couple of the pronouns.

But when the girls get to school these things are just going to click. Like the way Dylan can now count by fives to this song. Ya gotta have fun singing them out…

And having fun with these songs this past weekend took me to a happy place after the last week or two. You see two years ago we went to Ocean City, New Jersey on vacation and the local theater troupe put on a Schoolhouse Rocks play for kids on the boardwalk that week.

Truthfully, mom and dad enjoyed the play and songs more than the kids did that year. But listening to these songs reminded me that is our summer vacation again this year, as we hope the kids are big enough to get on more rides this time. The town is made for kids and young families. So my clan’ll fit right in!

Here is a peak at two years ago at OCNJ, the Schoolhouse Rocks songs and some of the boardwalk adventures if you want to take an impromptu trip right now.

Or if you are interested in more family dirt here is Part I…

More about the summer vaycay later. It was nice just to relive some of those memories.

Friends and family, I am still working on the videos of Skylar’s big day and pictures from Aunt Sue to give you the full scam this weekend as well as some fun things from Easter. Stay tuned!

Happy Birthday Skylar! And have a good week everyone!

HAPPY MONDAY!!!!

How’s your Monday going so far?

If it’s not a Happy Monday come on along for a ride in 3D

Because….

WE SOLD OUR HOUSE THIS WEEKEND!!!!

That’s right, we listed our house on Monday online. We had 3 showings in 3 days. And the 2nd visitor opted to buy in! We closed the deal on Friday. Friday! Five days! It was so exciting. We actually counteroffered via texts. Is this the way it is done now?

I asked some others in the real estate business if our asking price was possibly too low? Almost unanimously they all said, “no it was offered just right.” Thanks Anna!

I think you all remember the hurdles and hoops we had to jump through to get to this point. And then it sold just like that.

I think everyone should meet our All-Star Realtor.

Anna

If Realtors had a board she would Chief. If they honored their own she would be in their Hall Of Fame. If they had a league she would be an All-American. If Realtors were a pizza she would be Supreme. If they were ice cream she would be Catfish with brown gravy! Lol Sorry Anna. I had to put that in there.

I found Anna through a friend of mine from grad school. He’s in the mortgage business so I asked him when we started this house hunting journey if he could recommend anyone. Anna is who he suggested.

Anna had a reputation, if not legend, of selling a house in 7 days in the development she now resides in. My mortgage broker knew of this. My recent contractor and painter of our abode heard of her name this way and of her 7day selling feat. Know what? I think she just topped her own record. If you need to sell your house fast you can find her here at CarolinaOne Reality

So hats off to Anna and many, many thanks! Only problem is we have to be out of our house by the end of April now. But that’s a good problem to have I think.

Happy Monday? We are absolutely giddy her in 3D land. Birthdays start this week.

They began with a special, huge gift box in the mail from one of our, now famous, grandmothers and daughter. This box was so big it would have a hard time fitting in the back seat of my car. Once opened it was literally packed, layer after layer of great. Great (not allowed to use the word ‘awesome’ any more) birthday gifts and Easter gifts for both our girls. Videos will be offered as soon as they are processed buy here is a look at the fun things inside.

Dylan asked if I could blow these ballons up right now?

But unwrapping this gift treasury was just the start.

Our girls got a visit from some long-lost cousins (and their family) of theirs. Long lost cousins you ask? Here is the last picture of our girl(s) with their one cousin. Dylan was 4 months old! It was from their mom’s and my brother’s wedding, almost 5 years ago.

John's Wedding 023[1]

One of the girls was in town visiting a college for next year.

Four Cousins Family Photo. See the resemblance?

Some might notice an age difference? But not these great girls. They played and laughed and danced (the girls are trained dancers) Two nights in a row all 4 girls ran upstairs and played and jumped and laughed until something got broken.

The girls came down stairs then and gave our girls some more b-day gifts. We threatened them enough to sit still for some quick family pics until the next 4 year reunion. Ok we will see them this summer.

They taught my cherubs the fishy-fishy face.

Here is their “Fat Duck face’

“Fat, fat ducks never, never smile….

But we do!”

Here they did something terrible to Skylar….

They told Skylar she had to stand on one foot...

It was tons of fun having them and their parents in town. We all had a great time…once we were all healthy. And are really looking forward to the next fishy-face faceoff.

Thanks for all the great toys Marty, Jordyn, Sara and John! Happy Monday!

The birthday’s actually start today. Happy Monday! If you have a chance come on by and have some fun.

PS…We sold our house!

On the bus to the Super Bowl

I am running a contest here in 3D.

The first 5 readers who can tell me who played in last year’s Super Bowl will win a bag of Candy Canes and other left over Christmas and Halloween treats. OK?

Actually, I would have a hard time remembering who played. I can think of one team but not both. But in trying to make some plans for this year’s Big Game I remembered one of my favorite posts from last year, where Dylan was not going to lose… the attention of her Dad to some stinking football game.

So while you are trying to think of last year’s teams why don’t you grab a seat On The Bus To The Super Bowl:

Did you have a good time watching the Super Bowl? Do you have any good feasts or scrumptious snacks? I got my honey-do list done just in time to ‘score’ my favorite wings at the ‘What’s Your Blue’s name’ place, Sticky Fingers.

I settled down in front of the TV to see what transpires between the Patriots and Giants (Opps! the Contest is now over) and resolved to have a good time. My two little girls had their own agendas however.

Game On!

One perched on one side of my foot stool and one leaned across the other. Both wanted their share of MY wings. I told Mom, “I didn’t order enough!”. But Skylar was content to gnaw on the left over wings and Dylan made due with some BBQ’y pieces I tore off. Both were fighting for more of Daddy’s attention. And both were gonna lose this one night. I easily brushed them aside and out of my view of the TV as the game started. Not tonight girls!

Shortly after the game started however it was Skylar’s bedtime. Mommy scooped her up, read her a story and tucked her away. Now it was just down to Dylan, mano a mano, so to speak, to compete with my watching the great football finale. Once again I under estimated her!

As my wing dinner disappeared Dylan rethought her strategy. Seeing that my attention was firmly set on the TV, sitting on top of the mantle over our fireplace, she got on board. On the bus….

She says, “Daddy, I’m getting on the bus and you are the bus driver! Where are we going? Good idea?” I didn’t fall for it at first but she insisted. “Daddy, where do you wanna go? I’m ready. You’re the bus driver. I’m in my seat.”

Riding in the back of the bus

You see, she had gathered her toy drum and sat it on the brick ledge in front of the fire place. She put her kiddie chair in front, suggesting another seat on the bus for mommy. She sat back there with her little suitcase, sans pants, yet wearing dress up shoes. She was a force to be reckoned with! When she starts talking in her made up, yet serious  conversations, it just draws you in.

I had to just stall her until her bedtime in 45 minutes. “Do you have everything,” I asked, hoping to have her chase something down and out of my view.

“Yep”, she follows, “You are the bus driver. And I am riding on your bus. Where do you wanna go?”

“Well you better have everything because I am not coming back this way”, remembering how we left  her stuffed rabbit toy in Philadelphia on our last trip. “Everybody buckled in?”

“Yes I am daddy, I mean bus driver. Where are we going?”

“Charleston. Are you buckled in? Do you have everything?” Finally digesting her current outfit I said, “Hey! You can’t travel on my bus without any pants on. You have to be wearing pants to be on my bus!”. ~ I got her now!

She runs over to the chair where mommy had her folded baby laundry and pulls up the first pair of pants laying on top, then runs back to her spot at the back of the bus, conveniently during a commercial.

I said, “Come back here young lady. I don’t know if that outfit is going to fly on this bus!” Seeing something funny is happening here, I told her, “I am going to have to get a picture of you to see if you can wear this outfit on my bus and turn it into my supervisor.” So I took her picture and then she ran back to her seat.

“Are we ready to go now bus driver”, she happily asks as she sees she is winning. “I’m ready. Where are we going to?”

“Charleston”, I told her. “Do you have everything? We’re not coming back this way. Are you buckled in?”

“Ahhhhh, bus driver? Can we stop back at the hotel? I think I left ‘rabbit’ back there. Then we can pick him up. Good idea?”

Well…..Good idea?

“No, pretty little rider in the back seat. We are headed to Charleston. Now, do you have everything? Are you buckled in? We’re not coming back ths way!”

Grabbing a DVD case I spied lying on the floor I picked it up and offered it as the in ‘bus trip’ movie. Dylan smiled, but missing the ball with my cleverness she said, “but you are looking at the TV. I don’t have one. How can I watch the movie? But I am ready to go bus driver”, she sad with a grin.

Just then one of the elaborate Super Bowl commercials came on. In the background was the song, “Wild Thing”, with the chant “Wild Thing”. With the ‘wings’ apparently kicking in, I offered up my extent of dancing, some head shaking and lip synching (sad, I know) to the song, while I sat on the sofa. Jumping on my enthusiasm to the song, my 4 year old jumps up out of her bus seat and starts shaking dancing like it was the ‘Funky Cold Medina. Where does she get this I thought? Luckily she enjoyed the song and attention long enough that I had time to catch a picture even with this slow digital camera.

Wild thing….you make my heart sing…

You couldn’t help but smile. Even mommy, looking up from her book, had to smile. My ‘pretty little bus passenger’ then hopped back in her seat and told me, “I’m ready to go daddy, I mean bus driver. Where are we going?”
I looked up for the score, seeing the end of the first quarter. It was ‘Dylan 14 – Super Bowl 3‘. She was going to go into her bedroom for night-night and win again. I don’t mind. Its not like I let her win, given what’s on the TV. But she still won. She’s a pretty smart girl. Maybe Gisele should model her for a while.

Christmas in the rearview mirror

WARNING: The following post contains explicit family pictures and videos, some of which may not be appropriate for non-family members or other non-parent followers. Non-parental guidance is suggested.

We all have been busy here in 3D the past 10 days. But the family has gone home. The decorations are down and put away. The tree is by the curb. Which brings us to that special time, the customary Christmas summary.

Our Christmas holiday was a special one this year. My wife and I  both agreed it was a great memory: like taking a step out of time, and the hustle and bustle, for some pure joy, fun and relaxation. So I wanted to offer a picture post summarizing some of the joys that made our Christmas special for us.

Christmas this year started the weekend after Thanksgiving when we decked the halls and dressed the tree…

DSC_0228

By the following week we were practically ready to welcome Santa.

Christmas 2012 005The joy of the Holiday actually started the week before Christmas. I had a vacation from work that week. So we decided to make an impromptu trip to the zoo one day to see how the animals were going to celebrate Christmas.

IMAG0416We had a great time, as you may have seen, visiting the animals from around the world…

IMAG0381

By the end of the week, with Christmas only a few days away, the girls were getting pretty excited.

DSC_0224

Who does she get this need for attention from we frequently wonder?

DSC_0335

Mom says it isn’t much of a mystery.

The Friday, Saturday and even Monday before Christmas the girls received very generous and thoughtful boxes, if not crates, from their two very extra special grandmothers and families. The girls and I are very fortunate to have you in our lives. Really!

Also, the weekend before Christmas my family checked in to our Bed and Breakfast; the REAL Santas. The kids didn’t seem to mind too much.

DSC_0177

Christmas eve the girls each had a wee small part in our church’s youth Christmas message. Its OK girls, Arnold Schwarzenegger didn’t have any speaking lines in his first movies and he did OK for himself.

After church we came home, had some snacks, then sent the kids to bed. We told them Santa may visit here later that night. He may even leave them some presents. And that good little girls and boys would be asleep when he arrives…

DSC_0355

Christmas morning started calm enough. The girls actually stayed in bed until 7:00am.

That really was NOT me playing with a Winks Club doll!

But then Grandma and Grandpa woke up and the excess began!

DSC_0318

Dylan just got wiped out opening so many presents that morning from Santa, Aunts, Uncles, and Grandparents.

DSC_0322

The girls got some GREAT clothes, especially dresses this year.

Plus a very special ‘pretend’ dress…

ResizedImage_1356209420922

She just told me she looks all grown up in that picture. OMG! Slow down Dylan, slow down!

Two days after Christmas the girls got to wear some of their fantastic new outfits for my parent’s 53 anniversary dinner. They enjoy looking pretty!

Later that week we crammed everyone in a car and made it to our local Festival Of Lights displays at a county park…

1

The girls ‘ooo’ed and awe’ed’ even though it was a bit chilly…

HFOLSLIDE20123

So we got out of the car and stood by the fire and warmed some marshmallows..

DSC_0396

OK they might have had a hard time reaching their stick over the coals. But after a few s’mores and some marshmallows the girls were all sugar primed and ready to have some fun.

DSC_0409

So, all in all, the girls had a memorable time it seems. They were all smiles and never looked cuter…

DSC_0346        DSC_0418

The kids and Santas were all smiles and definitely not disappointed this year!

That is until today…when we had to finally put our tree by the curb.

Everyone here in 3D hopes you had a memorable Christmas too. We extend our best wishes for your best new year yet!

DYLANism: a learning experience

Our two year old was in her bedroom. Mommy was trying to undress her and get her PJ’s on. Resisting all of Mom’s coaching, our two year old finally threw something at her sister.

Mommy immediately corrected Skylar saying, “There is no throwing things in the house” as she smacked Skylar’s hand. Skylar instantly began to cry.

Dylan, being the great and caring big sister that she has been, walked over to the wailing Skylar. In a comforting manner, she patted her little sister’s hand and told her, “Life’s tough sweetie.”

This girl is ALL heart. Have a great weekend everyone!
